Geraldton is recognised as being the capital of Western Australia's Midwest region and it's port is home to the majority of the areas commercial fishing fleet. Situated 400 kilometres North of Perth in the middle of the historical and infamous Batavia Coast, Geraldton's fishing boat harbour and marina provide a good starting point to enjoy the great fishing and diving that the surrounding offshore areas provide.

The Indian Ocean and the waters around Geraldton are home to a wide range of marine life and also feature some of Western Australia's most abundant fishing areas. The local Western Rock Lobster (Crayfish) industry is one of the largest in the country.

For those with a little more time to spend here, the Abrolhos Island group, just off the coast, is one of Australia's most unique marine areas and is only a short boat ride away. It provides some of the best fishing and diving anywhere in Western Australia and always offers the chance to spot whales, dolphins and seals at play in their natural environment.

Pristine Waters

Geraldton locals have a great affinity for the sea as most of the families in the region are involved in the fishing industry in some way or another. As such, the Midwest region and specifically areas around Geraldton boast some of the best natural water playgrounds around.

Whether you are interested in one of the many water sports available in the area, diving, bush-walking and exploring or just relaxing on the beach, you will find exactly what you are looking for here. Best of all, Drummond Cove Holiday Park is centrally located, so no matter what you're interested in, you are sure to get the most out of your time here, without having to spend too much time travelling.

Abrolhos Islands

The warm Leeuwin current that flows along the Midwest Coast is responsible for one of Western Australia's greatest marine treasures. The Abrolhos Islands are a group of 122 formations that are home to coral of all the colours of the rainbow.

If you plan to visit the Abrolhos to go diving, the Island group provides a diving wonderland and the crystal clear blue waters that surround the 3 main groups will guarantee you a memorable time. No matter which group you visit, Wallabi, Easter or Southern, you will be amazed at the secluded beauty of this area. The wreck of the infamous Dutch ship Batavia, wrecked in 1629, is a popular destination for visitors. Lying in around 5 metres of water, the hull of the wreck is visible, fully equipped with anchors and cannons.

If you plan on fishing while you are there, you will find the waters of the Leeuwin current are teeming with hundreds of fish species and you can almost be guaranteed to catch something. There are a range of fishing and    eco-tours available if you have the time or day trips by boat or plane can be arranged.

Great Beaches

The same warm, fast flowing current that created the Abrolhos Islands, also ensures that the beaches in the Midwest area are some of the finest in Western Australia. As well as pristine shores, the Midwest area is also a haven for water sports enthusiasts of all types.

As the City of Geraldton is situated towards the end of a cape, known as Point Moore, the City is surrounded on three sides by beaches. No matter what you are after in a beach, you will find it here.

Front beach is situated right in the heart of the city and features parasailing and jet ski's in the summer. Whereas Back beach on the opposite side of the point is the most popular beach with bathers as it is sheltered from the winds that this area is renowned for. There are a lot more beaches to explore, including Pages, which is popular with families because of it's large children's playground and St Georges beach for it's yachting and windsurfing appeal.

Drummond Cove Holiday Park is situated right at the edge of one of the areas best beaches, only minutes walking distance from the park.

Wildflower Wonderland

Geraldton and the surrounding Midwest region becomes a carpet of wildflowers between the months of July and October. The outlaying historical towns of Mullewa, Mingenew and Three Springs showcase some of the most spectacular wildflower displays in the state.

As Drummond Cove Holiday Park is situated right in the middle of wildflower country, it makes an ideal base to explore the region. All of the main wildflower areas are accessible by car on day trips. This means you can visit the National Park at Kalbarri one day and after a relaxing night at our park, explore the Coal Seam Park in the opposite direction the next day. All this without spending too much time on the road, or without having to stay too far from civilisation.

You will find over 250 different species of flowering plants right in the Geraldton/Greenough area alone and our park features a lot of walk trails for you to explore the flora right at your door. With the Chapman River, the focus for the Chapman Regional Wildlife Corridor, only a short distance away, you will be amazed at the diversity of plant species within walking distance of our holiday park.
